The gimmick at Dick's is right there in the service: the staff are trained to roast you. They write insults on giant paper hats, mock your drink order, and make a scene of any celebration at your table. If thin skin is a concern, this is not your room. If that sounds like fun, read on.

Happy hour runs Monday through Thursday, noon to 5pm, and the pricing could not be simpler. Domestic beers, well drinks, and house margaritas are all $8, and select appetizers are $8 too. Five hours gives you flexibility for a late lunch or an early dinner. The $8 apps come in big portions that easily feed two, so a couple of plates and a round stretches the budget. Beer buckets are a popular group move.

The drinks are standard, properly made bar pours, and the food is better than it needs to be. Everything arrives with maximum sass, which is the point.

This works best for groups with a sense of humor: bachelor and bachelorette parties, friend trips, anyone who won't take a server's jokes personally. Solo visitors get less out of it. Weekday afternoons during the deal are the sweet spot, letting you get the full experience without weekend crowds. Sit at the bar for slightly less chaos or grab a table for the full interactive roasting. Tip well; the server is playing a character and still earned it.
